Binghamton's Passport to Adventure Fund

Are you excited to study abroad one day, but perhaps you do not yet have a passport? If so, this initiative is for you!!

The office of International Education and Global Initiatives (IEGI) is excited to announce the 2024 Passport to Adventure Fund! Any Binghamton student who is applying for their first passport is eligible for a $130 scholarship to offset the primary U.S. passport application fee. Awards are limited and will be granted on a “first-come, first-served” basis, so act quickly!

How Do I Apply for the $130 Award?
Please review the how to apply for your first adult passport on the U.S Department of State’s website. Complete the IEGI's award form and the
DS-11 Form. Bring a printed copy of the completed DS-11 form to the IEGI (Old Champlain, Room 240, M-F from 8:30am to 4:30pm) for review. Our team will then work to have a check distributed to you in the amount of $130, made payable to the U.S. Department of State. This check will cover the cost of the U.S. Passport Book. You will be notified via email when your check is ready to pick-up at the IEGI.

What Do I Do While Waiting For The Funds?
While you are waiting for your check to be processed, you will need to gather the necessary materials for your application, including proof of U.S. citizenship and photo ID (more information is available here).

What Do I Do After I Receive My Check?
After you have your $130 check and all of your supporting documentation, you will need to make an appointment at a passport application acceptance facility to move forward with compiling and mailing your application. Please be advised that you will need to pay a separate fee of $35 to the agency where you apply. Once you submit your documents to the government, it will take about 6-8 weeks to obtain your passport. Please plan accordingly. Questions about obtaining a passport can be directed to iegi@binghamton.edu.
